Christmas

We have been late getting ready for Christmas. So late that all I did was hang the stockings and put up the Christmas tree. We did make a gingerbread house the other day. Here are a few pics.

Speeding Ticket

Craig got a speeding ticket on Friday.

Yesterday as we were driving around Jared kept asking daddy are you going too fast? Next thing we knew he was praying to God to help his dad do the right thing.

I hope this works.

Bell Ringing

We always volunteer to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. It is great fun. It also reminds you how fortunate we are and how gracious individuals can be at this time of year. This year we took Jared. We thought he could help ring the bell. And he did, as well as singing Jingle Bells and Rudolph, as well as shouting Merry Christmas to All and to All a good night. He attracted a lot of looks and comments. After about 20 minutes of our hour stint he was through. He and I went into the store to warm up and waste some time until Craig got finished.

As we left he said he wanted to do it again next year.

Jared funny

Jared stayed with my mom and dad the other night while Craig and I went to a Christmas party. When we arrived to pick him up he was playing with Nana. He was bouncing up and down, wobbling his head back and forth and running side to side. I asked him what he was doing and he said "Nana is playing a carnival game of hit the ball into the clown. I am the clown and she is the hitter". It just a second he said "Nana you lose, you didn't hit me enough times to knock me down". I have no idea where he comes up with these things, but they are funny to watch.

The Thanksgiving Holiday

Two days off from work plus the weekend. Where did the time go? Two of my college friends came in to town over the holiday. We had such a good time. It was just like old times. We stayed up all night, slept in late (if you count 8 o'clock late, Jared was up at that time), chatted and giggled just like we did in college.

Craig spent most of the weekend with his parents making those ever difficult situations regarding who and where you should place your parents to get the very best care. He did get to come home on Friday and brought Jared his new puppy, Sparky. Jared is a little afraid of her, but she is growing on him.

Lo and behold we had our first accumulating snow storm on Sunday. We have a dusting on the ground today, but it will be gone by tomorrow as the high tomorrow is supposed to be 50 degrees.

Well enough about Thanksgiving, I best get to thinking about Christmas. It will be here in less than 25 days.

• That we have a wonderful family to spend the holidays with.

• That we have jobs to go to and that we are healthy enough to go to work
• That we live in a Country where we can celebrate the holidays
• That we have men and women who believe in this country to fight for our freedoms
• That we have a church that believes in ministering to all generations.
• Most and foremost that we have the only reason to celebrate this season "Jesus"

Need your Help!!!!

Craig's dad is experiencing some health issues and we are needing to find him and Craig's mom a place to live. Craig's dad is needing 24 hour care and his mom wants to be close to him but does not need this. Have you ever tried to locate two places for people to live that are close and handy for each? Also, we are 4 hours away and can't look or see the places we are trying to get them to move. What a task and responsibility. So if you have been through this or have any insightful info. please let us know

A very long time

Blogging has been on the back burner. We have been busy attending football games and working on the house again. I know that sounds like all we do, and I am beginning to think that is the case as well. We have been working on the landscaping and guttering. Yet another expensive chore.

Just an update or two. My dad seems to be doing better. We are praying that he never sees another catheter again. My cousin, Chris, is doing a ton better. He is at home now and taking care of himself during the day. We are so thankful that he is able to do this.

Jared is so excited for Christmas. He keeps getting all the toy catalogs out. I keep telling him we have to have Thanksgiving first. That is not any fun for him.

We have been working on what Christmas is all about. He can tell you it is about Jesus, but he is a little mixed up with Easter. Oh well, I guess as long as he understands that Jesus came to Earth, died on a cross for his sins, and rose 3 days later it doesn't matter which holiday he associates it with at this point.

Just some of Kerrie's random thoughts. By the way for those of you counting we only have 8 business days left in November and then the month of December before we usher in another year.

Jared is 4

Jared had his 4th birthday on the 7th. He thinks he is the biggest boy ever. We had 3 celebrations. He enjoyed having that. He asked on the 8th if it could still be his birthday. I told him no, but now he is all excited about Halloween and Christmas. As you can see he had the whole family wrapped up playing with his new toys.

My sister and I have taken up a new hobby. We are trying to learn how to decorate cakes. My aunt has always done that for our family but she is retiring so we wanted our kids, cousins, and nieces and nephews to have the same fun birthday cakes. Here is a sample of the first ones.

Love to Blog!

I love to blog and tell you all the wonderful things we do as a family and all the cute things that Jared does throughout the days. But I watched a show last night (I know it was fiction) but it made me think. It was about pedophiles and the crazy things they do. I have decided to limit the pictures of us on my blog. I hate that for those of you who don't get to see us very often, but until this show gets out of my head I will try to stick by this. (As you know I am a very forgetful so pictures will probably start reappearing soon) .

Some fun and not so fun things that have happened:

Jared is very concerned about obeying God (not so much mom and dad). He jumped up on Nana's lap the other night and said I obey God and you don't. The weekend before he had stayed with them and they missed church. I guess that was what he was referring to.
He sings a new song about God and the words are something like this:

On another note, Kolton had a bike wreck and had to have stitches and broke a tooth. I think he is really sore and beat up. It was the first accident at the emergency room for Kim and James.

Chase for the Heisman!

By now, if you are a college football fan of any kind I am sure you have heard the name Chase Daniel. (BTW, Jared wants to be just like him). Chase is the Quarterback for MIZZOU. He is having an outstanding year and is in the running for the Heisman. The tigers have a new marketing slogan for his promotion "The Chase for the Heisman".

The tigers are 4-0 for the season. Next up the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. GO TIGERS!

Birthdays

Happy Birthday to my nieces, Haley and Sierra, my friend, Thea, and my Aunt Joyce. They all have birthdays this week.

Family Injury Update

Dad seems to be better for the time being. He keeps having scar tissue but we are praying and hoping that this time it will be better and no more surgery.

My cousin, Chris, is now at the rehab hospital in Mt. Vernon. He is progressing every day. Today he was able to pass the swallowing test. He can now have food. He has been begging for food ever since they unsedated him and allowed him to talk. He has each of us signed up to bring him food.

Craig's parents are doing better.

I think we are getting back on the mend. It has been a long summer with accidents, surgeries, and illnesses.

We are hoping and praying for an uneventful fall-that is full of warm fall days that we can enjoy as a family.

The World as we are beginning to know it

Many of you know I work in the financial industry. As you can imagine it has been a little crazy with questions about FDIC, who is who, what does this mean for me, etc. Well that being said, I read a great article on Kiplingers.com about the big companies going down. If you look at the big picture we don't have as many banks and companies failing as we did from 87 -92 but we have a lot more openness from companies and the news media.

These big companies falling will ultimately help the financial industry get back on its feet, but it will take some time.

With all that being said, I would tell you not to worry about this, but be smart with the resources you have been entrusted.

September 11, 2008

Today is one of those days that no matter what else you think about you remember where you were, what you were doing, and the terrible things that happened on this day in 2001. It is one of those memories for me like JFK's assanination is to my parents. I can't help but recall all of those memories. The sadness that I felt and was not directly impacted by anyones death, the eery quietness of that afternoon with no planes flying in the sky, and yet through all of this the volunteers and emergency workers that were in NY putting their lives at risk.

We are such a blessed nation. Must we not forget that. And we must remember all those who lost their lives that day to the hatred felt toward America and all of our service men and women who have lost their lives before this tragedy and since this day to keep our freedoms intact.

Thank you to all who have planned special events today to honor these fallen victims.

May we continue to praise the God that protects us through all times.

Its football season again!!!

It seems just like a few days ago that we were coming home from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Boy it is so much fun to remember the good times. However since that we have had a lot of things I wish we would not have had to live through. Even as bad as it seems though we know that God is in control and He only gives us what we can handle. My friend Stephanie posted a blog about "This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it" Oh how true that is but oh how hard it is to live by.

Now back to the fun times. Craig and my brother enjoyed the Mizzou vs Illinois game on Sat. night. Jared and I will begin the football season this coming week with a trip to Columbia. We are expecting great things from the tigers. I hope they can live up to it. Even if not, it is a great way to spend time together as a family and enjoy the cool crisp fall weather.

He was mad at me the other day and told me he was firing me as a mom. I told him that if he fired me that I was going to trade him in for a new kid. He got happy quickly.

Now he keeps telling me that.

50th wedding anniversary

We had Craig's parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful time and lots of guests. We were able to spend some time with Craig's sister whom we had not seen in 2 years. We were exhausted when it was over, but I think Craig's parents enjoyed it.

Life in the fast lane

Well my dad is doing better. So we are happy about that.

However my cousin was in a horrible car accident. He has been in ICU for almost 3 weeks. He has been touch and go this whole time. It is wearing us out to deal with the hospitals.

Craig and I have finally decided to build our deck (we were waiting for the rain to stop). This has been a huge undertaking. We poured concrete a couple of weeks ago for the patio and pier posts. This weekend in the heat he and my dad built the frame. Sunday we took a break and went to White Water.

White Water was warm water. It wasn't even refreshing.

Family portraits

For the first time since Kevin was either a 7th or 8th grader we had a family picture taken. Boy have we all changed since then. The family has grown and we have all added wrinkles and gray hair. We had a great time this morning having them done. It is fun to get a picture and to try to figure out who everyone resembles. I am attaching a few of them. It is amazing that the photographer was able to get all 14 of us in a picture and have us all somewhat looking at the computer, eyes open, no hands in the faces, etc.

Over the past few weeks we have become "farmers". We are now the proud owner of four steers. We let Jared name them so they are: George, Sedgewick, Elliott, and Sam. Three of the four of those names are the Pirates Who don't do anything characters. Jared goes out to talk to them like they are humans. It is really funny. The first day we had them he came into the living room and he had his gymnastics medal on. I asked him why and here was his response:

"I want to wear it out to see my cows. They will be so proud of me"

Later we were at a restaurant and he was telling the waitress about his cows. She asked him what type of cows he had and his reply was "they are brother cows". The only thing we can think of is that Craig has been trying to teach him about bulls, cows, and calves. When he asked Craig if our cows were bulls, Craig said no they were boy cows.

We were at the mall the other day and Craig and Jared went outside for a break. They were discussing the tress and Craig told him he thought the tree was a maple tree and Jared said no dad, it is a South Dakota tree.

Finally, we were at moms the other night and she had company. When Craig and my dad went to the door so did Jared, Sierra, and Kolton. Jared knew that the guest was Danny Slatten, so Jared looked at Danny and said let me introduce you to my two cousins, Sierra and Kolton. Now everyone say Hi!.

Boy how he is growing and thinking about things. It truly amazes me.

Sierra, Haley, Addie, Kolton, and Logan

I have been meaning to put post out here about Logan's graduation, but I hate to post about one niece without being able to talk about all of them, so here it goes. (Just in case some of these things make me feel really old)

Logan - graduated from 8th grade in late May. It doesn't seem possible. I was graduating from High School when she was born. She now has her 1st boyfriend (if that is what you call them in high school these days). He is a really nice guy. She is very busy playing softball and traveling every weekend to tournaments. We hardly see her.

Haley - Well she will be 17 in a few months. She took the written test to her driver's license last summer. She didn't get her license and have 2 or 3 from her class killed in car accidents. She was not too thrilled about it, but she went this past week and past the driving part.

Addie - She has started playing softball this summer. It is coach pitch and she got her first hit in a game a couple of weeks ago. She was so excited. She kept telling me she was hitting the ball it was just foul balls.

Sierra - She hasn't had such a fun thing happen to her, but she showed us how brave she is. She had to have surgery this past Friday on a hernia. She never cried, never argued or fought the nurses and doctors. When she got home she never even complained about it hurting.

Kolton - I went up for Sierra's surgery and Kolton, Jared, Papa, and I went on a shopping trip around KC. He is really growing up as well. He and Jared just played all day and stayed out of
Sierra's way.

That is the happenings of the Keck nieces and nephews.

By the way, I would put pictures out here, but Craig is in Vegas and he is the one who has the patience to get them loaded onto the computer.

Trying times, but knowing God is Good

As Craig and I sit and ponder about all the things that have gone (what we think is) wrong, we realize how much God is in control.

Dad was recovering what we thought was in record time, however the recovery was really a bump in the road. He had to have another surgical procedure yesterday to remove some scar tissue. It went well and the doctor told him to resume normal schedule. The amazing part of this is that the main issue of the cancer is gone. Yes we have lost sight of that at times.

My in-laws are having even a tougher time. My father-in law had moved into an assisted living facility for some rehab. While he was there my mother-in-law fell and broke her pelvis. Now they are both there. However they are in a home that believes in getting them back on their own. They also have a lot of Christian activities.

We know that God's Love is amazing and at times we need to be reminded that He Loves us even in the bad times. Here is a little poem that brings it all into perspective

Jared's First Gymnastics meet

Jared had the first meet since we were in gymnastics. We didn't know whether to do it or not, because he was not really cooperating with some of the tumbling. The night before we practiced forward rolling until he was dizzy. I had to promise him a toy if he did it.

The morning came and he was ready. He and 20 other toddlers to do the same 15 second routine. It was great fun. Each of them got a medal and got to stand on the top of the medal stand and have their picture taken.

I will attach some of the pictures of the routine and the medal stand and show the crowd that he had for his first meet.

It has been a long time

It seems as if I haven't been to this page to blog in months. I know it has only been a couple of weeks, but they have been long.

I wrote a few times ago about my dad needing surgery. He went in 2 weeks ago yesterday to have this. As many of you know my dad never makes anything easy. The doctor came out and told us everything went perfect. Within about 10 minutes he was in front of us saying they were going back in because he was bleeding. The next 2 1/2 hours stood still as we awaited word. He then came back and told us that he almost bled to death. So instead of going to a regular room with a dismissal the next day, dad went to ICU.

As you can imagine Ash Grove, small town USA, was buzzing. We were getting calls in the ICU waiting area that dad had an hour to live and so on. He was stable by the time we went to ICU and had no major complications after that, but it was very serious.

He is doing much better, but it has been a long process.

For those of you who knew and whispered a prayer on his behalf many thanks to you. For those of you who didn't know the whole scoop can say one now for the praises that he is getting better and will be back up on his feet in no time.

Even though I didn't have a bike until some time after I got in school, I was wondering if Jared would ever learn to ride his. Kolton has been riding for what seems to be forever. Yea! Jared has finally figured it out. He can ride down hill with ease, up hill is a little more challenging. He wants someone to go run while he rides. It was papa's turn last night. Papa watched but did not run.

Quick Trip

We spent the weekend on the road again. We made a quick trip to St. Louie, through Columbia to watch the spring football game. While in StL we went to the hospital to check on my friend whose little boy had the open heart surgery. We went to the zoo on Sunday. Jared and Craig had not been there. We enjoyed hanging out and watching the animals. We had great weather.

I was not sure whether Jared would ever learn to ride (mind you I probably didn't have a bike until I was in 1st or 2nd grade) his little bicycle. Kolton has been riding his forever. However when Kolton was here a month or so ago, Jared decided he wanted to keep up. So we have been practicing. He is pretty good as long as he is going down hill, up hill is a little more challenging. Last night he wanted papa to run as he pedaled. As you can imagine that didn't happen.

update

Since we updated last a few things have happened. My friend's little boy had his surgery. He is doing well, but has his good days and bad ones. So please remember to pray for him.

We have had even more rain and expecting more tonight. I am pretty sure we are going to need an ark before the summer is over.

This weekend we spent it on the road. We went to St. Louis by way of Columbia. We watched part of the spring football game before heading to St. Louis. We went by the hospital in St. Louis to check on my friend. We enjoyed our visit, but would have liked it much better some place else. Then we went back to the hotel just to hang out. Sunday we visited the zoo and had wonderful weather and a good time just hanging out together as a family.

Jared has become quite the parrott. I thought it was bad when he was learning to talk, but it is worse now. One day last week, Craig made a comment. Jared looked at him and said "Dad how many times do mom and I have to tell you to quit saying that. It is not nice and I am tired of it". Boy could I hear myself saying that to him. He picks up on things so fast.

Things running through my brain

I have thought about many things I could write, but none seem to ever get put on paper.

As you can tell, I have been sidetracked from my blogging. It seems like this time of year is really hard on my family. Three years ago my grandpa Keck passed away, two years ago my uncle was hospitalized in February and passed away in March, last year my great-grandmother passed away in March. This year has been no different. Since Easter we have learned that my dad will have to have surgery on April 29th for cancer and Craig's aunt passed away unexpectedly. I said in January if we could make it past February and March with nothing tragic I would be happy. Well so much for that thought.

On top of that one of my best friends will be taking her 3 year old son to St. Louis to have open heart surgery. This is an anxious time for her and her family.

We are believing that God will help this baby and my dad through all the rough times ahead.

So on with fun news. The spring rains have brought wonderful green grass and new buds on the trees and plants and warmer days are ahead. We can't wait to get outside and try to get a lawn, trees, and flowers planted. My nieces are full swing ahead with their sporting activities, which happen to be softball, so we know summer and swimming are coming too.

So if you think about us in the next few days and weeks we could use your prayers and encouragement.

Easter

Easter was so early this year, that it was too cold outside to do our early morning Easter Egg Hunt with just Jared. He just got his Easter basket. He was ok with that. He enjoyed reading the books. After a quick breakfast we were off to church. After church we went to Ken and Gloria's for lunch with the family. We had an egg hunt after that. The little kids were content with just a few but the older kids were trying to see who could get the most. They ended up sharing some of their eggs with the kids. We were bundled up with lots of coats and sweatshirts just to get outside and do that.

Well now that Easter is over, it is back to work. I enjoy work, but it will be hard to get up early in the morning.

vacation week

Jared and I spent this past week together just hanging out. Kim and her kids were down from KC so we did a lot of playing with our cousins. Once Addie got out of school she came to Nana and Papa's to play. We went bowling the day it rained all day. We went to Chuck E Cheese, the zoo, and Silver Dollar City. I think I am more tired from a week off then I am when I work all week. We are ready to get back in our regular routine.

Happy 60th birthday party

We had mom and Gloria's 60th surprise birthday party on the 15th of March. Their birthday is on the 16th. We had friends and family to a community room in Springfield. I think they had figured it out, they just didn't know when, where, and who. All had a good time and enjoyed brunch provided by the kids.

After church Sunday we were eating lunch and Jared decided he was sick (in other words he didn't want to eat what he had ordered). He and I went to the truck. He was acting so pitiful. Craig got in the truck and said he guessed we should go home instead of going to Lowes (Jared's favorite store) and Wal-Mart. So we took off for home. In a few minutes Jared says Mom and Dad, "God has healed me. I feel 100% better. He healed me just like He healed Jesus in the tomb". I reiterated to him that he couldn't go into Lowes. He then said "Thank you Jesus for healing me and making me all better. The he said God said Jared you are welcome".

Needless to say he wasn't sick and he went in to Lowes and Wal-Mart and when he got home he ate something that he wanted to eat.

I just love this 3 year old stage.

the things kids say

I wish I had written down every cute thing that Jared has said since he has begun to talk and reason. But last night I think he stumped Craig and I more than anytime before.

He had conveniently dumped his 50 piece puzzle out of the box. We told him that before he could do anything else he had to pick up the puzzle. So he started to pick up the puzzle pieces and hand them to me. I told him that I could not help him get it done this way and he paused and looked at me and said "God told me to do it this way". I argued with him and he said that in church his teachers tell him that God is always right. What do you say to that?

Wonderful March 1st

We had a warm Sat. March 1st. It was nice outside and we enjoyed playing outside. Jared had a new Mickey Mouse Kite. He thought that was the coolest thing to fly a kite. We have lots of room to fly one and Jared just ran through the field. Never once did he let go and mom and dad chase it.

After the kite flying he decided he wanted to play baseball. He is learning a little bit about it, but the terminology is a long way from being right, but since he said it Craig and I are now using it. He got out his ball glove, bat, tee, and a ball. He told Craig that he would be the hitter (right on), dad could be the glover (fielder) and mom could be the baller (we think he meant pitcher, I am definitely better at hitting his bat, Craig tries to really make him hit it).

We can't wait for more warm spring days to spend in the sun.

We were watching the rain and working on the basement and went outside to find a bald eagle in our tree in our front yard. Before we could get the camera it had flown to the neighbors yard. Check this out.

Jared is still taking gymnastics. He is getting over his fear, but as you can see we are a long way from the Olympics.

I have been so slow about getting pictures. On the first of February Ashlynn had her 1st birthday party. We went to Gassville for the party. It was just a couple of days before the tornado wiped out the city. The kids had a wonderful time and enjoyed the big gym

days have been rather boring

The winter months bring such cold, blustery, blah days to MO. You can't really do much outside due to the temperatures, but we don't get the pretty snows to make it fun. Once again we had icy weather for a Tuesday commute to work. We don't get enough to keep you home, just enough to make it miserable.

The 22nd was Craig's birthday so we celebrated a little with my parents, but will celebrate again on the 27th with my family. On the 27th we will celebrate dads (which is actually that date), Craig's and my cousin, Steven. Maybe I will get some fun pictures to share.

Since I don't have anything exciting to share, I guess I will stop typing and get back to work. I think that is what the company pays me to do, work not blog.

lucky parents

Craig and I are so blessed that Jared is great kid and is really into learning things about God. He may not get the stories right all the time, but he is grasping them slowly but surely.

Craig found some cars that his mom had given him (when he was way too old to be playing with hot wheels) and gave them to Jared. The cars had scripture verses on them as well as a key word. As we talked about each of them he would tell us which Bible story went with each word. (A Big thank you to the producers of VeggieTales for reinforcing lessons learned in church). He was so excited to be able to talk about them with his friends and cousins.

Also, on Saturday he bypassed a trip to Kansas City with my parents to visit Kolton to go see the Pirates Who Don't do Anything. He has read the book he got for Christmas so many times that he knew what was coming next. He had a great time going to the theater with Addie (his cousin) and Craig and I.

Well I could tell you many more reasons why we are blessed, but I don't want to bore you with all my Jared stories.

stormy weather

It is quite unusual to have severe thunderstorms in SW MO in Jan. But Monday night we paid the price of having 70 degree weather over the weekend. By the time I left work the weather was too bad to get home. So I travelled to my aunt and uncle's in Battlefield (I don't think I will ever learn that Battlefield is in the path of the storm). We spent from 5:45 to about 8:30 in the tornado shelter at Battlefield First Baptist Church. If you ever need a shelter they have a good one and are well prepared. While I was in Battlefield Craig and Jared were at home in our basement and storm shelter. It is bad to be in the storms but it is worse to have your family separated from you. I think we kept the cell lines busy. Finally about 10 there was a break in the tornadic activity and I was able to get home. We had just dozed off, when our weather radio went off again and we had to go back to the basement. I am not sure anyone in SW MO had more than a couple of hours of sleep.

If you ask Jared what happened he will tell you to watch out for the tomatos. He thought Tomatos were attacking. I think we have watched too many Veggie Tales.

The weather has calmed down but now it is cold like January is supposed to be.

Last Road Trip of the Year, became the First of 2008

Christmas came and went and the year was wrapping up. As the year wrapped up, we were packing up for our final road trip of 2007 and yes the first road trip of 2008. Jared just loves the car (just kidding).

We took off for Dallas, TX on Sunday the 30th. Us and 15,998 other dedicated Mizzou fans drove through the wonderful state of OK to go to the Cotton Bowl to watch Mizzou play AR.

We had a wonderful time in Dallas. We got to enjoy the pool at the hotel, Craig and Jared went ice skating (check out the picture of Jared scared to death and then we couldn't get him off the ice), the Cotton Bowl parade and of course the big game. Mizzou capped the trip off by beating the Razorbacks.

We began the trip home as soon as the game was over and not 15 minutes into the trip, Jared was asking where his home was at. How much longer, daddy?
